Barton builds improved sewer and water system
By Wendy Post
After spending many years without a sewer system and an insufficient
supply of water, the town of Barton was able to acquire a new system
that is now supplied to 285 customers. Because the project qualified
for points as a Rural Economic Area Partnership Zone, the project
received over 4 million dollars in grants and loans. |

This infrastructure development will attract potential businesses, will
help improve housing stock and enhance the overall quality of life in
this heavily populated area of the Town of Barton.
The system, which was half grant and half loan, is complete with only
final grading remaining. The new tank , which is located on Levis Road,
holds 750,000 gallons of water. According to Bill Hotchkiss, Town of
Barton Supervisor, the Village of Waverly offered help with the
project. "They have great expertise in water and sewer," said Hotchkiss.
